The 2009 season is off and running; there have been several early bird races but as May is just around the corner, I believe the season kick off is now under way. I try and race early each year but for some reason or other something prevents me from getting to that February-April start line. It hasn’t helped that since 2004 I have either been pregnant or just coming off having a baby so that early bird race really has seemed E-A-R-L-Y.
So it is with a 6 year lag that I will be racing my most coveted season opener...WILDFLOWER TRIATHLON! (As this went to print Gina placed 6th at this years 2009 WF) I have a packed season this year; two races in May, two in June, two in July, one in August and then the big show in October: Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii (my all time favorite race :) ). I look at my season as a building block for the big show; laying some foundational race work, then selecting a few gun races, Vineman 70.3 and Philippines 70.3, and then the final prep into Kona.
It is a fine balance of training well, racing well and resting well. All 3 areas work together and as a professional I look at each workout and each race and define a purpose and objective. My ultimate goal is a podium finish in Hawaii and that is what I keep at the forefront of my mind as I define those purposes and objectives.
I am looking forward to a full year, it will be fun to have my 3.5 year old at the races this year as she is just starting to understand what it is I do. My best to each of you who have either already begun or are about to begin your 2009 race season and I hope to see you at the races!
Best,
